Roy Stevens enjoyed a successful international baritone career, specializing in roles such as Falstaff, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Alberich, Beckmesser, and Telramund, as well as in contemporary repertoire. He appeared with such renowned companies as the Teatro alla Scala, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Gran Theatre del Liceu, the Dresden Semperoper, Oper Frankfurt, Dallas Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, among others. In 2002, while engaged by the Metropolitan Opera, his voice shifted to the tenor range.
After successfully covering and debuting Heldentenor roles such as Siegfried, Siegmund, Parsifal, Tristan, and Loge, Mr. Stevens decided to specialize in the “character Heldentenor” roles of Loge, Herod, and Mime. These roles and other intensely character-driven roles in the tenor repertoire exploit his proven international level of acting and vocal intensity, his chameleon-like versatility, and his love of challenging roles and productions.
He has successfully performed in eleven languages and under many different styles of direction.
